Servants of Stone
I have a new novel coming out in mid-June from Crystal Lake Publishing. It’s another collaboration between myself and Josh Viola, and it has an unusual background. The story itself is historical fantasy, taking place in the New England area around 1830. It involves a witch, a stone mason, a young girl and more than a few monsters. Josh and I do quite a bit of co-writing, but we’ve never done a project quite like this. Josh came to me with a complete novel he’d worked on years earlier, with some characters he’d been living with in his mind for a long time. I was taken with a lot of it, but I didn’t care for the way it was structured. We sort of ended up doing a big rewrite together, expanding some plot points, dropping others, changing characters . . . In the end, it was a lot of fun. And we have sketched out two more books to make it into a trilogy that would go all the way to the Civil War. Will those stories ever get written? Time, as always, will tell!
